Aug 31: Deep
Dreaming 3D Mandelbulbs
Discovering my brand-new passion: Creating 3D computer graphics
based on Mandelbulb's
fractal formulas.
Here are my
first serious attempts, hopefully
good enough to show in public?
They're all
based on "Crazy Euler'
parameters, post-processed with
Google's
Deep Dreaming:
Inspired by the view from the
YSW ferry pier: the stilt
houses in the Fishermen's
Village in the background and a
superyacht front left, just
outside the Village, docking at
the ferry pier.
We're living in the Lamma jungle
now, after our recent move,
surrounded by lush vegetation,
it's really inspiring my
creative digital experiments.
All the images above have been
created with the same very
fertile set of fractal formulas,
post-processed with Deep
Dreaming's AI neural style
transfers.
Aug 30:
Tears To Your Eyes
A very recent SCMP appearance of
this
recurring character.
Facebook just reminded me that
it's been at least 7 years of me
being featured occasionally, the
way I might have looked like
last millennium!
Aug 26: A
Protest-Free Sight
Here's a new way of promoting
Lamma Island to visitors,
courtesy of the Telegraph
newspaper in the UK, Aug 23, by
their "Destination Expert":
Hong Kong needs visitors more
than ever - here's why now is
the time to go:
"Five protest-free
sights in Hong Kong:
2. Lamma Island:
Hippyish Lamma Island has it
all - stilted seafood
restaurants, pretty walking
trails, tiny temples, abandoned
fishing villages and white sand
beaches...."
Yes, still protest-free, but
"hippyish" is ancient history,
last-millennium. This reminds
us of Lamma being touted as a
SARS-free island - not a single
case detected here - during the
devastating HK-wide SARS crisis
just a few years ago, when Lamma
saw a major boom in local
visitors escaping from the fear
of the potentially fatal
infection in much of HK back
then.
Many Lammaites are joining the
overwhelmingly peaceful protests
in town, but they prefer to keep
them off our home island.
Aug 16: We ARE
FED UP!
This "protest banner" has
appeared at the Pak Kok ferry
pier, but not posted by who you
might suspect. Just another DAB
party banner urging the Govt. to
get going with building the
planned new ferry pier.
In the meantime, pier repairs
happening yesterday, while we're
all waiting verrrry patiently
for at least the next 2 years
while this future fancy pier
will be constructed. :
The DAB banner above generated
quite some
heated feedback...
P.S.
Govt to renovate public piers
for more convenient access

Aug 7: Bookworm
Cafe's Co-Founder
Hong Kong Tatler, Aug 2, 2019:
"As part of our Eco Heroes
series for our Sustainability
issue, we talk to five of the
city's most innovative
eco-warriors saving Mother
Earth, one impactful idea at a
time. Here, Mana! founder Bobsy
Gaia shares his story.
In the past 30 years,
Mana!
founder Bobsy Gaia has
reinvented himself multiple
times, spreading awareness about
the environment each step of the
way...
Bobsy moved to Hong Kong in
1992, where he has launched
various sustainability
initiatives, including
Able Charity,
which has planted more than
30,000 trees on Lamma Island
over two decades to help
rejuvenate its forest cover.
Along the way, he shifted his
focus from fashion to food,
opening a series of green
restaurants. In 1998, he
co-founded
Bookworm Cafe on Lamma, one
of Hong Kong's first vegetarian
cafes...."

Aug 5: Falafel
Platter @ Back Street
Late lunch in
Best Kebab & Pizza:
Very nice Falafel plate and a
glass of white wine in a cool &
cozy place at only HK$77 on YSW
Back Street. I'll come again for
sure!
Good views of people spotting
during lunch on YSW Back Street:
Aug 4:
Instagramming
I'm getting a bit more serious
with posting on Instagram:
lamma.gung.
Expanding my social media reach
and all that. What should be
next? YouTube videos of sunsets
and computer animations, maybe
or better not?
A historic piece I created in
1984 for a cover of the IBM
European HQ magazine in Paris.
Rendered on a huge IBM
mainframe computer, I based it
on a B/W photo of the Ile de la
Cite island in the Seine in
Paris. No
fee, but it got me a business
trip to Paris when I was just a
lowly summer
student intern in an IBM
research lab. Fond, but ancient
memories...
This image has also been used to
promote my very first computer
graphics/animation solo art
exhibition in 1986, in the
early novelty days of CG:
Aug 3: Lamma
Life...
Lamma Life...
...in a YSW beach-side
restaurant in the afternoon: my
favourite photo model, enjoying
his modeling fee - meat pie &
mash - in
The Blue Goose Tavern.
Internet-unconnected Nick loved
this photo I printed out for
him. He'd like to know what
people guess he was thinking in
that moment! Suggestions for
speech balloons, please!
First prize:
Same meat pie and mash that Nick
was enjoying in this photo, plus
a glass of wine!
