Dec 11:  70th Birthday of Nick the Bookman

Nick the Bookman is turning 70 today!

Wish him well when passing his bookstall on YSW Back Street or at the Farmer's Beach party where he's DJing at!
Today or on the weekend, not sure, ask him in person as it's the only way to communicate with him these days, no Internet, no mobile, even giving up his landline recently.

P.S. Next day, after reading all the good wishes he received on Facebook, totally offline and phone-free Nick typed his first-ever social media post into my mobile.
We spent an afternoon at his bookstall on YSW Backstreet, several passers-by dropping off free cans of beer for Nick at his "community meetup point":

I met up with several Lammaites I haven't seen in person for several years, living semi-retired in quiet, self-imposed exile in Pak Kok Village these years, just 10 ferry minutes or a half-hour walk from busy YSW:

Nick: "Howdy everyone you all! Love all the happy responses! I'm doing very well on Lamma with my gorgeous raison d'etre, Lena. Please have a listen to my Mixcloud. There are six good sets to enjoy."

Dec 8:  Lamma Free WiFi!

Gareth Dunster writes: "Apparently Lamma doesn't have a very good internet service and this makes some people sad. I've written a poem I hope helps in some way:

Everything is different now that we live in the future
Watching things in front of us through tiny hand held computers
We sit and watch cat videos while drinking in the pub

We're all alone with a thousand friends sending pictures of their grub
But because of corporate ignorance, laziness and greed
Lamma isn't blessed with first world data download speeds

I try to send an Instagram but have to sit and wait
A thousand people denied the sight of what I've got on my plate
If only someone with some skills would choose to play their part

And give us all free WiFi out of the goodness of their heart
I asked some online experts on a forum where I lurk
They just warned me of the dangers of an unsecured network

They told me it was risky and that they would be quite nervous
Of losing private data on some sketchy unknown service
But hooray for all of us, Lamma Free WiFi has started

And for all our social media needs our wishes have been granted
Transmitting from a pineapple beside the seats of shame
The password is your date of birth and mother's maiden name.
