Restaurant & Bar News   (Aug 2004)

So what's been going on this month in the local dining & drinking scene? Well, several concerts in bars, a free buffet, a repainting, home cooking, two very little-known places with exotic opening hours and at least two major new places being renovated for openings in the near future.

Plus an SMS: "Join lucy and malc at diesels this sunday 3.00pm, free buffet, hope to see you there. Veggie and non veggie". Photos below. Farewell to my dear friend Moloy who's still living on Lamma but working in Central now - Operations Manager of EDGE bar/restaurant.

I need to address a "serious" complaint. The Lamma-zine tries its best to keep its advertisers happy, like any reputable publication. Prafull of the Deli Lamma has recently complained to me (in jest?) that he doesn't see enough coverage of his fine establishment in the Lamma-zine, as a loyal, long-time advertiser. Well, I really can't agree, as the Deli Lamma has been covered with many photos, food descriptions and much praise in this section in each issue this year so far and he's even graced the cover once! To make sure that Prafull gets his money's worth, let's give him A LOT of additional extra free exposure in this issue:

When my friends ask me which restaurant I like best in Yung Shue Wan, I always answer that I personally & honestly think that the Deli Lamma is the Best non-Chinese Restaurant in Yung Shue Wan!

The delicious & yummy Cheeseburger above left is a famous signature dish being served in the Deli. The Chicken Supreme on the right is Lamma-Por's favourite, she's ordering it almost every time! The Deli Garden is also a GREAT spot for sunset watching! OK, enough exposure and praise in this issue, Prafull?

Some new foodie photos below, plus some historic photos of Lamma restaurants & bars 5 years ago!

Demonstrating how much and how quick the local dining & drinking scene is changing on Lamma, below are six fine pictures of restaurants & bars in Yung Shue Wan's Main Street, taken around 1998 by Clive Brooke-Fox. They are part of his really interesting & great "Lamma Virtual Tour" at www.Lamma.net/virtual/virtual.html, the only pages left from the former Lamma.net content. Cover image on the right.

Even though the virtual tour is seriously outdated by now, it still provides very valuable hiking tips, info and photos for much of Lamma Island. Check it out! Lamma restaurants & bars in 1998:

Island Bar: before the big redecoration

Fountainhead bar: in graffiti-less times

Capital Restaurant: closed - oldtimers might remember...

Toochka's: replaced by Lamma Bistro almost 3 years ago

Diesel's Sports Bar: before it got its characteristic bright green paint job

Waterfront: closed years ago, in permanent snail-pace redecoration since
