Better and more photos in
progress from a professional
photographer...
This first, highly informational
forum covered the 3 main
concerns of Lamma residents, according
to a recent survey:
1) Medical Services on the
Island 2) Marine Trash and
Beach Cleanup 3) Fibre
Project and Internet Speed
Just in case you're wondering
about the other concerns, here's
the questionnaire that got 300+

"The theme of the party is
Neon Glow-in-the-dark. You guys
will be the main decoration! We
have a small paint booth with
body paint artists on site. But
we might run out if it gets
busy, so feel free to bring your
own too. To support the concept
a big part of the dance floor
will be quite dark and lit with
black lights and purple LEDs. Be
sure not to wear anything you
care too much about. This will
be sooo much fun!"
Can we expect glowing body art
like this? We hope so. Best
photos will be published! For

ECO Lanterns, Parties, Even Karaoke
If you've got some energy left
afterwards, at 9:30pm there'll
be another Open Space party.
They're celebrating their new
graffiti wall, a reason as good as
any for a party! But does there
need to be any reason for a
party? Not on Lamma!
Click below for details and
directions to get there, amidst

Sep 11: 'We
come from more than 70
nationalities'
Comments from a private
Lammaite who prefers to stay
anonymous:
"I felt very
distressed and frustrated, so I
had to sit and meditate, since
it was giving me a heartburn.
Now I feel better, since I
always come back to the
realisation that, here on Lamma,
we come from more than 70
nationalities (from a survey on
the Lamma Residents and
ex-Residents Facebook group).
We might have
our differences, belief systems,
ethnicity and preferences, yet
as neighbours we are brave to
express and find solutions
through dialogue and a Yardley
Brothers beer. Many of us left
our countries and found Lamma to
be a big part of our hearts.
Yet, if we say anything we are
CIA agents.
I'm grateful I
can express myself freely here.
Whether we agree with each other
or not, always with respect as
we come from very different
backgrounds and we can visit so
many cultures without having to
leave the island. Just by
sharing a beer, watching the
sunset and ending the day at
peace. That is what freedom of
speech and dialogue is, and it
happens naturally on Lamma. I
bet being so close to nature and
animals has to do with it, as it
increases community interaction
and sharing."
Perhaps we feel
at home here, because thanks to
each other we've learnt to
respect our differences and
flourish as individuals while
keeping peace. I hope we are
wise enough to keep it that way.
The rest is all unknown. Hope we
can all have a good night sleep
and peaceful day tomorrow.
I'd like to
dedicate this as a message from
the children and elders of
Lamma, often people without loud
voices are the wisest. They are
the ones who inspire me and are
my best teachers, so I owe the
credit to them.
Thank you for
your consideration and for all
the work you do at the
Lamma-zine. It has been a
wonderful lighthouse of truth
for many of us who felt lost at
the vast sea of online
information.
Sep 5: Bedroom
Window Spider
No need to leave your Lamma home
to get photos like these.
A hand-sized Golden Orbweaver is
spinning her sqm-plus-sized web
right in front of our bedroom
window today.
She was so concentrated in
her work, not minding my tripod,
long lens and spotlight mere
inches away. She was taking a
break from spinning when it
started to rain; a perfect,
still model for me, watching
from inside, dry and enjoying
the aircon.
Wildlife photography can be easy
when you're living in the Lamma
jungle. No need to even leave
your home, the wildlife
surrounds you and some of it
even manages to visit you inside
your home, frequently and
usually uninvited.
