My little exercise in trying to
create an impression of these 2
contrasting islands: HK and
Lamma. Urban and rural, just 25
minutes by ferry apart, but such
a world of differences.
This is actually an AI-generated
mix of these 2 pictures:

Early riser Lamma-Por woke me up
excitedly at 5:30am today,
pushing me to walk up to the
rooftop sleepily with my
smartphone. {Big YAWN!}
But
it was well worth it! Great to
have access to our former
upstairs neighbours' rooftop
with sweeping sunrise to sunset
views.
Look what I found, an
all-illustrated, animated
drawing trip and Lamma history,
narrated in HK English by a
"Painting family of backpackers".
Well worth the watch!
"It was a beautiful morning
when we went to Lamma Island to
sketch and paint with our
two-year-old daughter little
Dawnxi. Our beautiful Hong Kong
is home to over two hundred
islands and the many aboriginal
villages on the island, which
represent another side of Hong
Kong. They maintain a quiet and
peaceful, simple and natural
life in a corner of the bustling
city, and Lamma Island is the
epitome of them. In our hearts,
Lamma Island is the most
charming island ...

Many beaches around Lamma Island
have been swamped by debris
washed ashore during the record
high tides. Summer Solstice
today:
"Summer Solstice: Higher
high tides occur due to the
increased angle of the sun
relative to the Earth during the
summer solstice.").
(Highest tide at Pak Kok
ferry pier, taking the top
steps)
The daily 2 high tides are back
to regular afterwards, so this various,
often dangerous flotsam will
remain, not being washed back
out to sea
again.
This is one of the worst beach
pollutions we've seen in quite
some time, more than our many
dedicated beach cleanup
volunteers can handle. The
Govt.'s beach cleanup ladies
have been doing their best on
some of the public or most
prominent beaches, but it's more
than even they can handle.
More volunteers to the rescue,
please!
Are you still missing the Island
Bar, closed permanently after 38
years on June 9, 2019?
My historic
Island Bar website
is still part of the Lamma-zine,
20 years of stories & photos of
their events & happenings.
2 more iconic Lamma bars in YSW
are changing owners these days.
The proprietors are leaving HK,
like so many friends. Updates:
Banyan Bay Cafe and
Blue Goose Tavern
The remaining pure bars are
requiring a new Covid-test for
patrons now, almost killing
their businesses after being
completely closed for so long.
YSW's formerly so very vibrant
bar scene is undergoing another
major shift.
