Where Bohemian Vibes Meet
Tranquility
An entirely unrealistic
representation of Lamma Island
Patrick Mullen on Medium:
"I'd seen a video on YouTube by
Drew Binsky. In
that video he was telling a
story about
Nick the Book,
one of Lamma Island’s most
famous inhabitants. Until that
point, I was aware of the many
islands that make up Hong Kong
but I never knew that one of
them would be like, well,
this....
Before going much further let me
just be clear - I live on Lamma
Island and I Love Lamma
Island...."

Life
Jungle
writes:
"Our dedicated young VSA
student volunteers and many
dedicated community volunteers
have been working tirelessly,
even in the 31+ degree heat, to
create a stunning piece of art
for our community. Check out the
beautiful photos and videos of
their hard work.
We're halfway through and
looking for more hands to help
complete this vibrant mural. Together let's turn Lamma
Island Sok Kwu Wan into a
colourful landmark that brings
joy to everyone.
We'll be continuing
tomorrow, so if you're passing
by, don't forget to give them a
thumbs up!"

Happy Janmashtami!
Spicy
Island Rest. & Bar's
Anju and son!
I had to google it:
"Janmashtami is a Hindu festival
that celebrates the birth of
Lord Krishna, the eighth
incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
It
is observed on the eighth day of
the dark fortnight of the month
of Bhadrapada in the Vedic
calendar. The festival is widely
observed in Mathura and
Vrindavan, which are the scenes
of Krishna's childhood and early
youth."
"Krishna Janmashtami for the
year 2024 is celebrated/ observed
on Monday, August 26.
The date falls in the month of
Bhadon on the 8th day of the
dark fortnight in the Hindu
calendar which is July, Aug.,
or Sep."

Invasion?
The
"good old days" when war games
were popular in South Lamma, 10+
years ago. Groups of domestic
helpers and their friends spent
their Sundays off in the
abandoned warehouse in the
ex-Lamma Quarry's
War Game Venue
(interactive
photos guide):
Here's a first-person
report of their exploration of
South Lamma, plus their
beautiful
photo album of ca. 10
years ago. These photos could
have been taken today as nothing
has changed yet in these highly
picturesque areas, for example
the scenic lake in the ex-Lamma
Quarry (history):

Hungry Ghost Festival
The always hungry Chinese ghosts
must have appreciated this
offering from Lamma-Poh at our
open-curtains living room window
last night.
The
Yu
Lan Hungry Ghost Festival
today is marking the middle of
the current "Ghost Month" and
will end on Sep 2 this year.
Here's a video from
Robert Hope-Jones that he shot at
the Tin Hau Temple in YSW:
"A snippet filmed during the
second evening of Hungry Ghost
Festival as more performances
outside Main Street temple
continue to help keep our
village free of pesky ghosts."

Fishermen's Pier?
Sunset @ Pak Kok ferry pier. So
many fishermen, 10+, occupying
the far end of this pier almost
daily, they've got their own 3
specific warning signs!
But
hardly any regular ferry
passenger, us Pak Kok residents,
ever goes out there; so it's
fine, no obstructions caused so
far.

Exit Sign for Rats?
An eagle-eyed young Lamma Lady
spotted this sign on the
YSW-Central ferry, close to the
floor at the back exit. Her
mother took photos and posted
them in one of the many
Lamma-related Facebook groups,
asking what it might mean. Great
guesses flooded in quickly:
Rat trail? Banksy in HK? Rats
leaving the sinking ship? Rat
escaping the freezing aircon?
Emergency escape "rat hole"?
One of the numerous
creative Lammaites
came up with this sign:

Missing Man Found Safe
A week ago, a massive search
operation for the HK man above
was launched, last seen at the
YSW ferry pier. His family
reported him missing to the
police. Helicopters searching
all over Lamma, police groups
going door to door asking if
anyone had seen him the last
several days? A number of HK
news outlets picked up the story
as well.
Fortunately, a day later he
returned to his home. He
sustained no injuries and no
suspicious circumstances were
detected, according to the HK
Govt.'s
press release.

'Together Lamma' Community Wall
A

few years ago of the
Democracy Wall close to the YSW
Ferry Pier.
If you're interested to post on this new Community Wall,
laminate your leaflets and bring
them them to the 'Together
Lamma' shop on YSW Back Street
(vis-a-vis Nick's book stall).
Any courses or activities
related to mind|body|spirit,
art, culture and music held on
Lamma Island are welcome to post
promotional leaflets in size no
larger than A4 on this wall. The
shop owner reserves the right to
